John Haldane Memorial 2019

John Haldane Memorial Race

A massive well done to the lads who raced the John Haldane today! Gale Force Wind, Rain, Sleet, Snow….the whole lot!

A4 Race – Lavelle and Kieran avoided the numerous crashes and finished well up in the bunch, just missing out on their first points of the season. Andrew had an off day and retired with one lap remaining, no disgrace in such conditions.

A3 Race – Luke and Brian both rode well in the horrendous conditions. Unfortunately Brian suffered a puncture just at the start of the last lap. Luke finished right in the mix in the sprint finish narrowly missing out on his first A3 points.

Great to see Shimna being well represented in this year’s open race scene!!

2019 Racing Starts!

Annaclone was the venue for the eagerly anticipated Travers Engineering GP first road race of the season. Banbridge Cycling Club hosted over 200 cyclists from across the country on the challenging 8 mile circuit. Shimna Wheelers club members Lavelle Grant and Kieran Connolly lined up for their first A4 race while Alex McMath returned for his second season. Weather conditions were poor with driving wind and rain making racing difficult. The lads did themselves proud with Kieran coming in with the group sprint finish and Lavelle not far behind. On Sunday, Luke travelled to the Phoenix GP – A3 Race, nothing got away all day and it came down to a bunch sprint in the end with Luke finishing in the main bunch. A good start for the Shimna men, with the John Haldane Memorial up next on Sunday morning on the Newry-Warrenpoint Carriageway. All support welcome!!
